Like the Berkes’ site, the Nichols’ had a topographical challenge. The developer intended the site to be accessed from below via a winding drive, but Florian maurer suggested an alternative: access an upper-level garage via a short drive from the east, keeping a low-profile building and establishing a sunken garden courtyard around a large ponderosa tree. This house features a two-story stairhall with skylight, a west-facing deck, and a lap pool in its health wing to the south. We refinished all wood surfaces and repainted this house in 2020.
