growing up in st. john’s, newfoundland —a windswept city perched on the edge of the north atlantic ocean— I learned to appreciate the necessity of good shelter, and how it interacts with its environment. i did not have words for it then, but from a young age I began to understand the impact that buildings had on how I felt.

the best ones offered protection from the elements, while still letting the rugged beauty of the landscape in. they were a joy to experience and left me feeling excited and inspired. the bad ones? i could not get out of them soon enough, and back into the wild world that was home.

our built environment has a profound impact on how we experience ourselves and our world; and meeting the challenges of the coming decades requires us to build in ways that are creative, resilient, and beautiful. i am excited to be working for f2a and playing a small role in that process.

i find inspiration in many places: from mountain adventures on skis and by bike, to the communal experience of a shared dance floor, or the simple pleasures of drinking from an alpine creek and steam rising from turned compost.
