we worked with the owner of one boardshop | premium label to outfit three distinct retail spaces across british columbia, with the biggest one yet to be built on the outskirts of vancouver. here, we find the chance to merge architecture with dance to create a fun course. set apart from your standard store experience, f2a principal austin hawkins applied his years-long love of skateboarding and experience building mini-ramps out of salvaged wood to design a store that responds to the open conditions of large, warehouse-style shopping spaces and introduces the possibility for airtime. the architectural fixtures and displays inside pay homage to skate ramps, quarter-pipes and rails to form a “hypothetical” course for those coming in to seek their next board, binding or just a smooth line which makes the most of what’s available.
